Somalia repatriates its refugees from Yemen

The federal government of Somalia has successfully repatriated 109 Somali citizens mostly refugees, including mothers and children from Yemen, the move said was a significant milestone in the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to repatriate its nationals stranded abroad always done by its foreign affairs and international cooperation ministry.

The returnees arrived safely at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport on Tuesday in an operation, facilitated by the Somali federal government ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Government officials warmly welcomed the returnees, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to ensuring their safety and Somalia’s effort to address the plight of displaced citizens.

The government officials stated that efforts are underway to provide immediate support and long-term assistance to the returnees and ensuring sustainable solutions for displaced citizens.

This successful repatriation highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing humanitarian challenges and underscores the Somali government’s commitment to protecting its diaspora
