H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Ahmed Maalam Faqi Ahmed, met on Wednesday in Cairo, his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Egyptians Abroad, H.E Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty, on the sidelines of the work of the second ministerial conference of “Operation Khartoum”, and with him researching ways of strengthening relations The historic duo, driving strategic cooperation, and exploring new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries and the brotherly peoples.
The discussions focused on a range of regional and international issues of common interest, including the African Union Mission to Support and Stabilize Somalia (AWSOM), where ministers stressed the importance of working together to promote regional peace and stability and address common challenges through enhanced cooperation and sustainable diplomatic participation.
The meeting paved the way for further research on tribal cooperation between Somalia, Egypt, and Eritrea, where ministers welcomed projected consultations to enhance dialogue and joint work between the three countries, focusing on regional integration, stability and shared development goals.
Minister Ahmed Faqi expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s support to Somalia in various fields, recognizing its key role in the country’s stability and progress, and reaffirmed the commitment of Somalia to strengthen its relations with Egypt, achieving the common interests of the two countries.
On his part, Minister Abdel Atty stressed Egypt’s respect for the unity of Somalia and the security of its territories, his country’s support for Somali national institutions and its ongoing efforts to achieve stability, emphasizing the importance of regional solidarity in addressing security threats and promoting development.
The ministers agreed on the need to maintain close coordination in regional and international conferences, and continue to expand cooperation in areas of common interest, guided by the historical links and patriotic brotherhood that bring the two countries together.
