Somali government calls urgent end to neighbouring clans’ fighting in the country

Somali government has called for community leaders to take crucial action to end a series of deadly neighbouring clans’ fighting that has erupted in several parts of the country. 

In a statement, the Ministry of Interior called on local authorities, traditional elders, religious scholars, women, and intellectuals to unite to restore stability and work on best ways of getting lasting peace with in the Somali community. 

“We deeply regret the ongoing conflicts and actions that contradict Islamic law and Somali culture. The Ministry calls for an immediate end to violence, targeting, and displacement of civilians, which have led to significant loss of life, injuries, and forced displacements,” the statement read. 

The call for action follows recent clashes in Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and the Sanaag region. Furthermore, six Somali National Army soldiers and their driver were ambushed and killed in the El-Baraf district of Middle Shabelle last week.

The soldiers, all members of the Hawadle clan, were on leave and traveling to their families in the Hiiraan region when they were brutally targeted in a revenge attack. Local residents reported the militia shot the victims in the head.
