Somali cabinet ministers approve national penal code amendments

Somalia’s cabinet ministers held their weekly meeting in Mogadishu;s presidential palace of Villa Somalia and approved amendments on the national penal code, the federal government ministry of justice and constitution tabled the initiative. Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre chaired the meeting. 

During the meeting, the Cabinet also ratified the National Policy on the Establishment of a Higher Institute for Legal Training and Development, marking a significant step towards modernizing Somalia’s legal framework.

These amendments, submitted by the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, also highlights substantial progress in various sectors, including diplomacy and international relations, security, and the national economy.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Barre emphasized the importance of the amendments in aligning the Penal Code with international standards and enhancing legal education and training within the country.

Various departments presented their reports before the cabinet with the diplomatic sector showcasing strengthened international ties, while the security report highlighted ongoing efforts to maintain stability and protect citizens.
