Mudug Regional forces from Puntland and Galmudug have disjointed two armed militias that exchanged gunfire in Galkayo’s Garsoor neighbourhood, located in the capital of the Mudug region on Saturday night.

The clash said resulted in casualties, but the exact figures remained unconfirmed.

Traditional leaders in Puntland have called for peace, urging the warring Lelkase and Sacad clan militias in western Mudug to resolve their differences through dialogue, compromise, and mutual understanding.

“We encourage both administrations to take responsibility and strengthen peace,” the elders said in a statement, expressing their support for peacemaking efforts led by elders and intellectuals from both sides.

Residents in the Garsoor neighbourhood reported a tense atmosphere despite the separation of the militias. Many remain anxious, fearing renewed violence in the area.
