Authorities Seize Mogadishu Home Linked to Bombing Targeting Somali President

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Authorities in the Banadir region have seized a property in the Xamar Jajab district of Mogadishu, alleging its use in activities that posed a threat to national security, including a March bombing that targeted President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s motorcade.

Banadir regional spokesperson Saleh Omar confirmed the confiscation on Tuesday, stating the action was carried out under a directive from the Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu. The house, owned by a Somali woman identified as Fahma Warsame Kabayare, is believed to have played a role in facilitating the deadly attack.

While officials did not disclose full details of the security threat, sources told Hiiraan Online that the property was connected to the March 2025 bombing in Xamar Jajab that killed several individuals, including journalist Mohamed Abukar Dabaashe. The attack, claimed by the Al-Shabaab militant group, targeted a presidential security convoy and marked one of several assassination attempts on President Mohamud since his return to office in 2022.

“This house was used for purposes that directly endangered public safety and national security,” said a Banadir regional official, noting that the seizure followed an investigation conducted in coordination with the Banadir Police Command and the Ministry of Internal Security.

No arrests have been announced in connection with the incident, and it remains unclear whether further actions are expected against individuals linked to the property.

The confiscation underscores ongoing efforts by Somali authorities to clamp down on urban networks believed to support Al-Shabaab operations, particularly in the capital.
