Egyptian and France presidents discuss Horn Africa issues

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi discussed the situation in the Horn of Africa during a Saturday telephone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, according to the Egyptian presidency.

President El-Sisi highlighted the close link between the security and stability of the Horn of Africa and Egypt’s national security, the presidency noted. 

He affirmed that Egypt is working to support Somalia in achieving security and stability through bilateral cooperation or, at Somalia’s request, participation in the African Union peacekeeping mission.

El-Sisi also discussed the recently brokered agreement between Ethiopia and Somalia, expressing his hope that it would contribute to the security and stability of the Horn of Africa per international law principles.

The call also touched on the bilateral relations between Egypt and France.

Both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in various fields, particularly the economic and investment sectors.
